Many people say that they don't care if criminals get killed. They say good riddance. And they say "Why be scared. Are you a criminal?"
The rhetoric sounds good. And the rhetoric makes sense.
But they're not thinking how it'll be implemented.
Before you know it, what was the TANIM BALA scandal will transform into the TANIM DROGA scandal - - with thousands of people becoming victims of planted evidence, or harassment and bribery and perhaps death if you happen to protest and piss off the police officer who plants the drugs in your car or in your pants or bag.
I've told this before, but my wifes cousin was murdered by the police in a case of mistaken identity.
A robbery had occurred and the perpetrators escaped on a scooter. The cousin and a friend were doubled on a scooter heading home from work and we're heading towards a police checkpoint which had been set up to catch the guys.
The police opened fire as they thought the cousin and his friend were the perps and going for guns. The cousin fell off the bike and the cops shot him as he lay there. No guns were found.
Now while this is anecdotal, it still makes me astounded to hear the people say if you're not a criminal you've got nothing to fear.
Cops make mistakes. Cops are corruptible. Everyone knows of stories about cops doing dodgy shit. It also makes me wonder if my in-laws will be targeted because everyone in their area knows that 2 white guys are in the family.
The thing is they believe that when Duterte sits on the presidency a miracle will happen and turn all the cops in to a perfect example of a human being who is not affected by factors like religion, emotion, way of living, etc. in short they cannot make mistake so don't be afraid.
It's quite sad that a lot of people are blind to the obvious, yet believes the hearsays wholeheartedly.
